1. Activity focus and purpose : To enhance students’ English conversation and practical communication skills, the “EMI English Conversation Program with International Instructors” was organized to provide students with more opportunities to practice spoken English and engage in meaningful interaction. International instructors guided students in discussing a variety of topics in English and encouraged them to share their perspectives and personal experiences. Focusing on topics related to university life and everyday situations, the program incorporated interactive discussions and speaking activities to strengthen students’ English communication skills, build their confidence in using English, and enhance their ability to communicate effectively in real-life contexts. 2. Activity features and implementation : This activity, themed “Around the World: Travel, Culture & Perspective,” focused on travel experiences, cultural differences, and cross-cultural perspectives. Students were encouraged to share their travel experiences, views on different cultures, and thoughts and feelings about cultural differences in English. Through a variety of discussion questions, the instructor guided students to explore topics such as dream travel destinations, traveling alone or with friends, culture shock, experiencing local life, and the challenges of living in another country. Students also reflected on whether travel can change the way people think, what can be learned from people with different cultural backgrounds, and whether traveling can broaden perspectives and foster a more open-minded attitude. In addition, the instructor led discussions on misunderstandings that may arise in cross-cultural communication, stereotypes about different countries, and how exposure to different cultures can encourage people to reconsider their existing perspectives. Through this activity, students not only practiced describing travel experiences, expressing personal preferences, and explaining their reasons in English, but also developed greater understanding and respect for cultural diversity, enhanced their cross-cultural communication skills, and strengthened their ability to view issues from multiple perspectives. 3. Quality indicators of activities We really appreciated the instructor’s thoughtful guidance and engaging activities. The topics were interesting and interactive, making the class both fun and enjoyable. The lunch was delicious as well! |
