1.     Activity focus and purpose:

This activity was designed to comprehensively strengthen students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for the English proficiency test. In preparation for the test in the first semester of the 115 academic year, four English enhancement classes—“Speaking,” “Writing,” “Listening,” and “Reading”—were offered. Through professional instruction and simulated test practice, students received systematic training in listening and reading, as well as targeted practice in speaking and writing, to enhance their English proficiency and test-taking skills. Overall, this activity not only strengthened students’ English language foundations and test-taking strategies but also helped increase their motivation and confidence in taking the test, foster a positive attitude toward English learning, and enhance their competitiveness in future academic and career development.

2.     Activity features and implementation:

The content of this activity covers the four major components of the English proficiency test: Speaking, Writing, Listening, and Reading. The session featured a “Speaking Reinforcement Class” led by a foreign instructor, who engaged students in situational exercises, interactive activities, and real-time feedback. These activities helped students improve their spoken English, respond more confidently in different situations, and communicate with greater fluency. Mock speaking test questions were also incorporated into classroom practice and discussions, giving students an opportunity to become familiar with the test format and practice effective ways of responding. Through these activities, students developed practical speaking skills, learned useful test-taking strategies, and gained greater confidence in both English proficiency tests and everyday communication.

3.     Quality indicators of activities

Overall, students provided positive feedback on the Speaking Reinforcement Class. They found the instructor’s explanations clear and the course well structured, which helped them better understand approaches and strategies for the speaking test and improve their English speaking skills. Students also expressed satisfaction with the course arrangements and the instructor’s teaching methods, resulting in a positive overall learning experience.

Regarding suggestions for future improvement, some students expressed a desire for more opportunities for speaking practice and individual practice, along with specific feedback and suggestions from the instructor after each exercise. Future sessions may incorporate more mock test exercises and opportunities for students to practice responding to test questions, allowing them to immediately apply the speaking strategies learned in class and refine their performance based on the instructor’s feedback, thereby further enhancing their speaking test skills and overall learning outcomes.
