1. Activity focus and purpose : To encourage faculty members to promote EMI teaching activities and to enhance the English communication skills of teachers, staff, and students, the College has organized the “On-Campus Foreign Instructor Program and EMI English Conversation Sessions for Faculty, Staff, and Students.” This activity invites foreign lecturers to engage with the College’s faculty, staff, and students in English discussions on various topics, encouraging participants to share their personal perspectives and reflections. The goal is to improve participants’ English speaking and expression skills. The content is rich and diverse, closely connected to university life, and designed to resonate with students—further stimulating their motivation and confidence in practical English communication. 2. Activity features and implementation : This session centered on the theme “Careers of the Future,” guiding students to reflect on how the work environment in 2050 may differ from today. Students discussed in English possible scenarios in which people may need to collaborate with robots in the future and considered how to enhance their own competitiveness to avoid being rapidly replaced by technology. The class also explored questions such as “Which jobs would you not want robots to perform?” and “In which areas would you most appreciate assistance from robots?” with common examples including childcare and household cleaning. In addition, the instructor introduced potential future professions—such as Climate Fixer and Memory Editor—and engaged students in analyzing the possible benefits and risks these emerging careers may bring to society. 3. Quality indicators of activities The activity received highly positive feedback from students. Many found the theme both relatable and inspiring, noting that discussion topics such as “Memory Editor” and “Climate Fixer” sparked imagination and added an element of fun to the session. Students shared that, under the instructor’s guidance, they were able to re-engage their language skills and flexible thinking despite their demanding clinical schedules. Some also mentioned that they interacted more with the foreign instructor during this class, keeping their minds actively engaged and feeling that the session was rewarding and enriching. Overall, the responses were enthusiastic, and the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. |
