1. Activity focus and purpose : To encourage faculty members to promote EMI teaching activities and to enhance the English communication skills of teachers, staff, and students, the College has organized the “On-Campus Foreign Instructor Program and EMI English Conversation Sessions for Faculty, Staff, and Students.” This activity invites foreign lecturers to engage with the College’s faculty, staff, and students in English discussions on various topics, encouraging participants to share their personal perspectives and reflections. The goal is to improve participants’ English speaking and expression skills. The content is rich and diverse, closely connected to university life, and designed to resonate with students—further stimulating their motivation and confidence in practical English communication. 2. Activity features and implementation : This activity, themed “Passions and Side Hustles,” guided students to share their personal interests, leisure activities, and ideas for future side hustles in English. During the session, the teacher encouraged students to reflect on the importance of hobbies in life and helped them understand through discussion that life should not be limited to schoolwork and work. Continuously cultivating personal interests can not only enrich life experiences, but also help relieve stress, strengthen self-identity, and improve quality of life. In addition, the teacher guided students to consider that if a side hustle developed from one’s passion could one day support one’s livelihood, individuals would have more diverse life choices and greater autonomy. Finally, students were divided into two groups to debate the statement “Most people should not turn their passion into a job.” Through exchanges of affirmative and opposing viewpoints, students practiced organizing arguments, expressing their positions, and responding to others’ opinions in English. Overall, the activity not only provided students with opportunities to practice English expression, but also encouraged them to re-examine the relationship among interests, work, and life planning, thereby fostering an attitude of active exploration, continuous learning, and diverse personal development. 3. Quality indicators of activities I really enjoyed the activity because it encouraged me to talk about topics from our life stories in a casual way. In daily life, we rarely have opportunities to do this. To communicate clearly and make myself understood, I had to look up the correct words and accurate vocabulary on the Internet, which helped me make progress. |
