1. Activity focus and purpose :
This activity aimed to support medical school faculty in addressing common challenges in EMI classrooms, such as low student participation and limited interaction. Through structured and immediately applicable teaching strategies, the program sought to enhance teaching fluency and classroom interaction in EMI courses.
With the core goal of encouraging students to speak up, the training covered class openings, language scaffolding, and classroom delivery skills, helping faculty develop a more natural, structured, and guided EMI teaching approach. The program also aimed to strengthen presentation design and language use, while applying effective questioning and interaction strategies to increase student engagement and improve the overall learning atmosphere.
2. Activity features and implementation : The course was organized around three core teaching strategies and integrated eight key EMI topics, including ice-breaking and opening techniques, presentation structure, sentence scaffolding and word banks, questioning skills, professional pronunciation, pacing, and class wrap-up techniques. The training emphasized practical strategies that can be immediately applied in both English- and Chinese-medium courses. The sessions combined demonstrations, hands-on practice, and immediate feedback. Faculty members showed high levels of engagement, with active interaction throughout the training. Participant feedback indicated improved ability to guide student responses, better control of teaching pace, and more natural classroom language use, contributing to more interactive and effective EMI classrooms.
