1.          Activity focus and purpose

To align with the 2030 Bilingual Policy, this training course was specially designed to equip EMI TAs with classroom management and communication skills. Under the guidance of EMI instructors, TAs led students in group discussions to enhance the overall effectiveness of EMI courses. Through engaging and dynamic teaching methods, part-time instructional assistants at our university were empowered to apply what they had learned and better support professors in facilitating smooth and effective course delivery.

2.          Activity Features and Implementation

Course introduction
This course served as a foundational training program for EMI Teaching Assistants (TAs), primarily offered to part-time instructional assistants (TAs/ATAs) at our university. Through this course, participants enhanced their communication skills and classroom management abilities within English-medium instruction (EMI) environments. As the university has been progressively promoting EMI in recent years, this training aimed to help TAs and ATAs better understand how to apply effective classroom management strategies and communication techniques, enabling them to act as crucial bridges between instructors and students in EMI courses.

Teaching Methods
The course adopted an interactive teaching approach, incorporating group discussions and situational simulations. During the sessions, the instructor invited students to the front of the class to engage in role-playing activities. Through peer interaction, participants learned how to apply both verbal and non-verbal communication techniques in the classroom. The training focused on improving their command of English prosody—such as stress, intonation, and rhythm—as well as communication skills like body language and eye contact, thereby enhancing their overall expressive effectiveness.
