1.      Activity focus and purpose :

In order to promote the goal of "Build KMU International" and to meet international standards, KMU, on the basis of the international friendly campus, focuses on the English environment and atmosphere. Besides, KEC sets up the staff International Club as the mid-term goal to manage this staff English empowerment activity. With the assistance and guidance of the mother-tongue instructor from the Center for Languages and Culture– Assistant Prof. Andrew du Boulay, a more solid foundation will be laid for the future campus language-friendly environment.

2.      Activity features and implementation:

KEC is an English-enhancing activity for staff, which is composed of “International Desk” from departments and offices and colleagues from the International Office, with Assistant Prof. Andrew du Boulay as the instructor. This activity is held on the second and fourth Fridays of every month. The content includes role-playing in groups to provide on-campus administrative English services for foreign students and faculty, along with the practice of consonants, vowels and pronunciation correction. At the KEC presentation event, Andrew sets a topic of “Write about an exciting event in your life that had an important lesson for you” and revises the article one-on-one and corrected the pronunciation before the event. Both instructor and participants hope to make their best works. The latest topic is telephone manners. Participants work in pairs/groups, imagining any possible scenario beyond the scope of a textbook, and testing each other's responses. The interactive process is lively and interesting, bringing so much fun to the members.
